This large garden in Somerset is set in a rural area, surrounded by hedges and fields. It has an existing large pond that was incorporated into the new design. The design gave the garden a new layout, with a flower garden, formal rose garden and wildflower meadow

The formal rose garden has been laid out to make the most of the existing beech hedge and stone wall.  A pergola is in place, and over time roses will climb over this to create a fragrant and shady seating area. The symmetry of the garden is centred on a circular lily pond, which can be glimpsed through the arch in the beech hedge. The roses have been selected to give a mixture of old and new varieties giving the best fragrance and colour.

A large beech tree had been removed from this circular area, and a smaller acer, (rufinerve), with textured bark was chosen to replace it, as the size was better suited to the situation. The surrounding bed has been filled with many varieties of geranium, one of the client's favourite plants, mixed in with complementary shrubs and plants to give a longer season, and some different heights and textures. A circular bench seat will complete the area when the stake for the new tree is removed.
